FAQ
Why do I actually have to do this DIAS accreditation anyway?
You will need to pass your accreditation if you want to have access to Medicare rebates (for your practice or your clients) for any imaging item numbers.
I have passed my Entry Level accreditation which is for 2 years. Can I do another 2 years or do I have to now do the 4 year Full Suite?
No. You must now enter and complete the Full Suite which will give you accreditation for 4 years.
We did our Entry Level accreditation but pulled out half way through as we lost our reporting agency. Can I join up again and do the Entry Level again?
No. You must now enter the scheme by doing the Full Suite straight up.
What is the difference between the Entry Level and the Full Suite standards?
The Entry Level has 3 standards and the Full Suite has 15 standards.
Who should I choose as my accreditor?
The three agencies all audit you using the same standards. Each accreditor has their own web-portal which you use to upload your document and prices will vary. One accreditor offers a subscription option so you pay a smaller amount each year as opposed to one lump payment after you submit your documentation.
Does the accreditors fee also include your fee?
No. Our fee is additional to the accreditors fee. Our fee assists you in gathering, formatting and uploading your information to audit. Our time is spent helping you submit only the information that is required so you do not waste valuable time on information that is not required. We also point you in the right direction in terms of accessing necessary documentation and resources. Our invoice however does include the accreditors fee for ease of payment.
My expiry is coming up. When do I have to submit to the accreditors?
The accreditors ask that you submit at least 2 months prior to your expiry to allow enough time for assessment and re-submissions if required. However, we are able to request an express service which is sometimes very close to expiry dates.
I notice that one of the standards asks for evidence that my machine has been serviced. Does this mean it is mandatory for me to sign up to one of those expensive service contracts?
No. The standard does not ask for evidence of a service contract. The standard asks for evidence that the machine has been serviced in accordance with manufacturers guidelines. Depending on your choice of machine it might mean that no formal services are required.
I have an ultrasound machine and use an intra-cavity probe. I currently use Milton to disinfect this between patients, is that acceptable?
No. Research has shown that a high-grade disinfectant is required to clean cavity probes [semi-critical item]. Milton is classed as a hospital-grade cleaner.
Do I have to have an LSPN before you can help me?
No. We can obtain your LSPN for you. You will need to have your machine details [make, model and serial number] before you can apply for your LSPN. We can normally have your number for you within 48 hours. We will also discuss the option of a mobile LSPN rather than a fixed [same price].
I have let my accreditation expire. How long will it take to have it re-instated?
This depends on how prepared you are. If you have all your licences and registrations in order it shouldn’t take very long at all. We can organise to have it back up and running within a few days if you are pro-active and provide the information we require. Remember, accreditation cannot be backdated so you might have lost billings between stopping and starting your accreditation.
I am accredited but just bought myself an additional machine [same modality]. Who do I need to tell?
You will need to amend your details with Medicare through the LSPN section. This involves a simple amendment form that you fax through to Medicare and a quick email to your accreditors to advise them.
I do ultrasounds as part of my clinical consultation. Do I need to write myself a request and produce a report?
No. If you are a specialist and can bill Medicare for certain item numbers relating to your scope of practice, you just need to document the clinical indication or ‘reason’ for the scan AND the findings in the clinical record. However if you are accessing an R type item number [and you received an outside request], it is necessary to advise the referrer of your findings via a letter or report.
